Editors will fuss but true emotions must be expressed: Cracker Barrel changed their logo and I HATE IT!
Yes, I went all caps in the title and even added an exclamation mark. Friends, we are living in cruel days where history and personality are being stripped away from things. It was sad when industry stalwart Mcdonald’s turned into depressing little dystopian future confirming neutral browns, muted yellows and gray kiosks of rough coffee and dry breakfast sandwiches.
But now, we are going after true nice institutions in this stripped-down mess that defines our 2020s. Behold, Cracker Barrel – Old Country Store:

Look at the left. We have the classic logo with that musky brown and a hint of red, making you think of old-fashioned things like old stores, the big house and wood floors. It makes you feel at ease, like visiting MeeMaw on a Sunday and knowing soon you would have a meal of smothered pork chops, hot water corn bread, seasoned grits (sugar and butter for the misguided Yankee palettes) greens, baked macaroni and cheese sweet potatoes and two helpings of pecan pie with milk to wash it all down. Iced sweet tea steeped under the sun and water that was just there for decor and to build condensation, and most importantly, the comfort and connection felt at a table of family love.
And these meals could vary: fried catfish could be the star, fried chicken, pot pie. It was all hand made and all good. You would sit at that table, hear stories of shopping for Old Christmas, tales from when Meemaw was girl, this dates over 100 to 130 years ago of history today. But all that is lost. That rugged old man sitting outside the wine barrel in his rocking chair, Meemaw’s stories, those family meals. That sense of purpose is lost with the sterilized logo change.
AND THAT IS NOT ALL!!! Alert, for the indoor and /outdoor aesthetic of the restaurants are also about to change.
An Instagram user captured the INDOOR changes that is being phased into Cracker Barrels. The restaurant chain is purportedly planning to change all the interior design, and this is one sample of what it looks like:
