You will peek at the screen, then look away at your phone
The Wild movie is billed as a story where you can watch three friends take an annual trip and grieve the loss of their best friend who was named Bea. The other three, Emilia, Finn and Lucey, take to the wild to reconnect, grieve and carry on with their lives. And I can promise you, that is the most attention you will pay to the plot aside from very heavy-handed excuses to show the attractive actresses in various forms of undress and making hoo-ha with each other and some random guy and Spirit Halloween horror bunny costume enthusiast in the forest.

I would be remiss if I claimed I was able to pay close attention to this movie. There were people messaging me online and research for a tricky case that I decided to get back into instead of this movie.

The Wild is billed as a horror and suspense movie. The only thing really horrifying is believing that an unwashed guy in the middle of the woods is going to be appealing to a group of three friends. Seriously, this movie should be labeled as slow burn and psychological thriller. It was less horror and suspense and likely for more nuanced than what I am giving credit. So instead of kicking back and expecting a horror movie with quick beats, you are settling into a movie that is meant to explore the minds of core characters who are grieving the loss of their friends as layers of nuance permeate the plot as we go through a psychological breakdown that may have some spiritual elements.

Also, who lives. Who dies? The one thing that is for sure, drinking and molly do not mix together. Trust the doctor.

Overall, I give this movie a 65/100. This will likely reach the ā€œCā€ grade category on a rewatch, since I know I need to be in the mood to focus on a psychological thriller and not a cheap woodsy horror film on rewatch.
