A video that is going viral on social media channel TikTok is part of a new craze where people are claiming the world is coming to an end. Sparred off by Pastor Joshua Mhlakela, the new trend claims the new rapture would start in Africa between September 23rd and September 24th 2025, then possibly affect other areas. The video associated with this purports to be footage from South Africa and show souls ascending into heaven.
@visionaryaim1 Did this footage from South Africa capture a moment of the 9/23/25 rapture? #rapturetok

Mhlakela’s claims were initially shared on his YouTube channel, CettwinzTV, and were met with mixed indifferent reaction.
But in the mold of modern social media, the story went from trite claims of rapture to a viral sensation that had many claiming videos tagged ‘Rapturetok’ were true and uploading their on possible capturing of a divine moment.
What Is a Rapture?
In relation of the current media trend, the rapture refers to a Christian belief that in the ‘end of days’ a great sound will manifest in the sky and those of faith will ascend to heaven, while those who are not of good spirit or faith will be ‘left behind’ upon the Earth.
Stories of rapture are not uncommon, with adherence and fascination with the concept coming and going as easily as bell-bottom pants or musical trends in Western nations.
The event is to end with Christ returning to Earth, and then a chain of events setting off that mark the end of days as told in Revelation.
Mhlakela’s claims so far seem very unfounded and the videos are not convincing. Still, there are many who fully seem to believe the end of humanity is nigh.
Rapturetok: Is It The End of Days for Humanity?
Does the new RaptureTok trend mark the end of days for humanity? My vote is a firm ‘No’. Humanity’s biggest event remains its bumbling lack of respect for one another. Given the current politics circulating the globe, especially in the US, where it seems decency is detested, we find the likely soul greatest threat that will have souls leaving this Earth. And that threat is lack of civility, humanity and empathy.
And if there was anything that would likely trigger a divine being to say “Enough”, well, we are probably due for a special visit, but those who think they would ascend may have a very toasty surprise awaiting.
