What Does the Shooting Death of Charlie Kirk Say About Current American Politics?

Charlie Kirk, the controversial political commentator, has died of alleged gun violence. Per current media reports, Kirk was gunned down at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The commentator was the co-founder of Turning Point U.S.A., an organization affiliated with the promotional tour Kirk was on at the time of his death. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance issued thoughts of ‘prayer’ for Kirk moments before he reportedly died from his wounds today, September 10th, 2025.

The death of Kirk is highlighted in a time when American politics, culture and lifestyle is largely seen as struggling in a quagmire of exploitive social media, politicking and media manipulation. While many Americans would agree that rule of law and “Golden Rule” human decency should be extended to all people, events quickly fall into a machine of division that seems designed to force people into taking ‘sides’ on a basic issue.

This editorial today dives into that concept and question: What does the shooting death of Charlie Kirk say about Current American politics?

This past week, my heart was troubled at the amplified media story of the young Ukrainian refugee who was murdered in cold blood after she left a shop. So many thoughts tied into one story. A young woman who had to flee her homeland that is under attack from an old American Cold War enemy. A young woman who had a job, as an immigrant, and was not being chased down by a group like ICE, yet, found her life still taken in a horrid act of violence. A young woman whose life was taken by a man who apparently had faced arrests, yet was schizophrenic and without healthcare, health insurance, a plan for just living life and left to his own vice. A young woman now being put on murals and at the center of the machine: her death is being used already as a stomping point: she was white, the schizophrenic person who killed her was black, Trump took to media saying kill the guy with no real due process, Musk and friends are donating millions for murals, and social media/media are being partisan.

What are the key proactive issues? What is the real story? We will never see it, and this young woman will be forgotten by the public after the new big reactionary thing pops up. And it already did. In Colorado, three people were killed at a school, just moments after Trump and others talked up doing a mural for the young woman and killing a schizophrenic man without proper due process. It used to be called calling for a ‘kangaroo court’. And then, now , Charlie Kirk.

What does this all say about American politics, social media, and media. There is a machine that has been built into it and it is dangerous. Everyday issues, such as America’s lack of mental health facilities, gun crimes, hate crimes and even international relations are not being focused on properly. And that is because every death, every event, every turn possible, we have opportunists in place not to solve problems, but instead in place to twist narratives, grift, get views to their shoddy social media pages and sadly yell ‘fire’ along sociological strata, the foremost being race, ethnicity, mental status, faith and financial level.

The head of the beast is quite simple: call out on opportunistic leeches in this process. I want a world where young women can be immigrants and ride a fricking bus safely. I want a world where women can exist anywhere safely. I want a world that has learned from past mistakes and stand strong against invading armies. I want a US where mental health is taken seriously, the legal system and healthcare system have adequate resources to house and deal with people who should be red flagged as dangerous or in need of further treatment and not left to their own, and most importantly, a world where topics lik ethis are not fodder for media and ‘leaders’ who use it to cause division or to try to circumvent legal parameters.
